BACKGROUND

The City of Tarpon Springs was awarded a planning grant from the Florida Department of Environmental Program (FDEP) to undertake a study of the City's flood-related Vulnerability. This study, the The Vulnerability Assessment and Action Plan (VAAP), is aimed at preparing Tarpon Springs for the effects of coastal flooding, erosion, and ecosystem changes due to the effects of rising sea levels, stormwater/rainfall flooding and storm surge flooding.

The VAAP:

  • identifies assets that are vulnerable to flooding and rising sea levels,
  • develops a list of conceptual projects to reduce risk and vulnerability,
  • positions the City for future grant funding through FDEP and other available sources to implement projects that will increase the City's resilience.

  • Craig Seawall Replacement
  • Elfers Spur Trail Seawall Project
  • Sponge Docks Flooding Abatement Project (Piping and Vault Pumping Station)
  • SAP 104 - Roosevelt-canal Drainage Improvements
  • SAP 108 - Lakeview Dr. Drainage Improvements
  • SAP 111 - Grandview Dr. Drainage Improvements
  • Whitcomb Bayou Area Improvements
