WHAT IS THE STRATEGIC PLAN?

The City of Tarpon Springs is embarking on a yearlong process to develop a vision for the City and a strategic plan to make that vision a reality! The City has teamed up with the University of South Florida Institute of Government and Saint Petersburg College Collaborative Labs to facilitate this project, write and present the final strategic plan to the commission, and to assist with implementation. This new strategic plan will be organized around a few broad-reaching focus areas and will serve as a guide city budgeting, capital project planning and program development over the next 3-5 years. The Strategic Plan will be complimentary to, and coordinated with, the City's Comprehensive Plan, which has a much longer planning horizon of 20 to 30 years.

HOW TO GET INVOLVED!

In order to engage and capture feedback from all stakeholders, this project has been designed to allow multiple opportunities for citizens to actively participate and assist in forming the content of the final plan. The initial opportunities for engagement are listed below:

  • OPPORTUNITY #1 - Virtual Citizen Engagement Session
    • Thursday, August 26, 2021 at 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM (Click here to view the recording of this session)
    • The SPC Collaborative Labs team will facilitate a collaborative citizen engagement session to inform the community of their role in the strategic planning process, as well as, how to engage throughout the process.
  • OPPORTUNITY #2 - Resident Feedback Survey (Survey Closed November 15, 2021)
  • OPPORTUNITY #3 - Community Focus Group Forums

There will be additional opportunities for residents to engage in the process. We encourage you to check this page periodically for updates!

WHEN WILL THE PLAN BE FINISHED?

The Final Strategic Plan Report is expected to wrap up in August 2022 with an Implementation Phase from October 2022 through September 2023 with a formal document and presentation being delivered to the City of Tarpon Springs Commission.

Are there any plans to rehabilitate the area south of Tarpon Ave and East of Alt 19 close to downtown Tarpon? It is very dilapidated.

patlovejoy asked about 2 years ago

This area is located within the City's adopted Community Redevelopment Area (CRA).  As such, specific funds are set aside each year for investment through such programs as facade grants and building code compliance grants.  These incentives are available for property owners to invest and rehabilitate structures for new uses. For additional information about the CRA please see the link below:

How do you plan to pay for costs? The residents of Tarpon Springs have 1 of the highest city tax rates and we simply CANNOT afford any increases, especially at this time when inflation is out of control.

Vasilia asked about 2 years ago

City projects and initiatives are considered during the City's annual budget and Capital Improvements Plan cycle.

Will a parking lot be developed on the outskirts of town and a minibus service be developed to take tourists from the parking area to the pier and from the pier to town and from town back to the parking lot? If tourism is to increase on the pier and the shops in town are supported it should be easier for people to access both venues. Additionally, will funds be provided to maintain the preserve on Carlton Avenue?

Susanne asked about 2 years ago

Thank you for these questions.  Once the overall Strategic Plan is developed and priority focus areas identified it will be used to guide decision making about specific projects to be funded for the future.

Thank you for alerting us of this!  We are working with our consultants to insure that this does not happen again for the February 12 forum.

I am unable to join on Thursday, the 20th. Would it make sense to join on the 12th or is the second meeting more applicable to participants of the first meeting only? Thanks so much!

CaseySmith asked about 2 years ago

Are they going to extend the US 19 expressway from Clearwater to Tarpon Springs? The traffic accident situation can no longer be tolerated

Jalfan asked over 2 years ago

Hello! Thank you for your inquiry.  I have inserted a weblink below that may be useful in answering your question. It is an FDOT site with all US 19 Projects identified and whether they are completed, under construction, or in design phase.  If you look at the "Design Projects" tab on this site you will see projects identified up to Lake Street in Tarpon Springs (just south of Tarpon Ave).  Each project has an information page and contact information.

Hope this is helpful for you!
