🌳 Tree-mendous News from Tarpon Springs! 🌳

Tarpon Springs recently met with the Sustainability Action Committee to present the 3-35-300 Methodology, a comprehensive approach to equitable urban tree canopy distribution. This strategy, aligned with the City's Urban Forest Management Plan, moves beyond traditional “no net canopy loss” goals to focus on how and where canopy is distributed—ensuring all residents benefit from access to green spaces.
The 3-35-300 rule aims to:
Ensure every resident can see at least 3 trees from their home,
Achieve a 35% canopy cover in all residential neighborhoods,
Provide public parks or green spaces within 300 yards of every residence.
This structured, data-driven approach supports public health, environmental resilience, and urban livability, while incorporating performance indicators to measure progress over time. The City looks forward to continued collaboration on sustainable urban forestry and upcoming discussions, including tree species lists, right-of-way responsibilities, and maintenance standards.
