Oneida LG2 Environmental Solutions, Inc., on behalf of the City of Tarpon Springs, is performing a historic and cultural resources survey update. During February 2024, Oneida LG2 employees in high-visibility vests will be documenting the area from the public right-of-way.

The City has been awarded a Small Matching Grant from the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Historical Resources to survey and update the Historic Resources Survey of the City of Tarpon Springs local historic district, the Greektown National Register Historic District / Traditional Cultural Property, and the Union Academy and Crosstown neighborhoods. The City of Tarpon Springs conducted a Historic Resources Survey in 1988, and a Survey Report and updated Florida Master Site File (FMSF) forms were completed in 2009. The Greektown National Historic District / Traditional Cultural Property was designated in 2014, with 296 contributing buildings, sites, and structures: 100 of these resources have existing FMSFs. A survey of the historically African American Union Academy and Crosstown neighborhoods of Tarpon Springs was completed in 2023.

The existing local historic district includes 578 FMSF sites / structures. The purpose of this project is to record approximately 250 new FMSF sites, update approximately 400 existing FMSFs, and develop an updated and integrated Historic and Cultural Resources Survey. The new Survey will include resources in the existing local historic district, Greektown, Union Academy, and Crosstown with expanded periods of significance, incorporating additional historic themes to build a more comprehensive record.
