NEW! Draft REPORTS Available!

Draft Final Reports will be Presented to the Board of City Commissioners

May 24, 2022 Tarpon Springs City Hall Auditorium 6:30 PM

The City was awarded with a $100,000 grant from Forward Pinellas to develop a Disston Avenue Complete Streets Concept Plan (Phase 2), which will build off of the past efforts of the Land Use and Corridor Study (Phase 1). This corridor runs north-south, from Belcher Road to Live Oak-Spruce Street, and is approximately 2 miles in length. There is a 1/4 mile gap, preventing a complete connection between Belcher Road and Live Oak-Spruce Street.

"Complete Streets" are streets designed for everyone. They prioritize safety, comfort, and access to destinations for all people who use the street, especially those whose needs have not been met through a traditional transportation approach, including older adults, people living with disabilities, and people who cannot afford or do not have access to a car.

The Complete Streets Concept Plan will focus on guiding principles that came out of the Phase 1 process, which include:

  • Safety & Traffic Concerns
  • Multimodal Connections
  • Traffic Calming
  • Emergency Response
  • Access to Services
  • Neighborhood Impacts
  • Land Use Opportunities
  • Context Sensitive Improvements

To address the guiding principles, this phase will explore different concepts for all users (bicycles, pedestrians, emergency and personal vehicles, etc.). These concepts will be evaluated in close coordination with the community to select a preferred concept for Disston Avenue.
